A feast of Maytime merriment. Get creative in our fabulous workshops and enjoy exploring the galleries with the traditional treasure hunt.  Can you find all the mini statues of local heroes that are hidden around the building?

Open-ended Toddler Play

A stay & play session for the under 5s. These sessions invite your toddler to discover, learn and explore. 

Saturday 1 April

£2.50 per child, adults are free but must book a place. 
 

Animal Antics Family Yoga Play

A family yoga session in the gallery space.

Relaxed Sessions

These sessions are primarily for neurodivergent children and adults, and any other visitors with sensory needs who prefer a more relaxed experience, plus their families, friends, and carers. Come along to explore the gallery and take part in a creative activity.

See artwork in a whole new light this February half term. Art School… in a trail! is a free spotter trail from Kids in Museums and Hachette, celebrating the release of 'Art School (in a book)', an exciting introduction to the world of contemporary art for young creatives from the makers of hit podcast Talk Art, actor Russell Tovey and gallerist Robert Diament.
Enjoy our traditional spotter trail with a fun twist – each stop unlocks a creative mission designed to help you look at and chat about an artwork in fun new ways.

Relaxed Hour

Monday 16 February

FREE session for neurodivergent children, where young visitors who would benefit from a more relaxed environment can enjoy and explore our Local History Gallery exhibitions and take part in activities. This session will have a special VE Day theme with object handling, crafts and circuit building.

Marvellous Mosaics 1

Wednesday 18 February
Suitable for ages 6 and under
10am - 11am
11.15am - 12.15pm

Create your own Roman inspired mosaics! A mosaic is a picture made from many tiny, colourful pieces put together to create a pattern or image on walls or floors, used by the Romans to decorate their homes and buildings.

In this workshop children will use painted pasta to create their own mosaic picture to take home.

Viking cord winding

Inspired by our Viking ring on display, create your own cord using a winding technique that dates back to the Saxons and Vikings. Once completed, your cord can be fashioned into a unique bracelet or necklace. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Coming for May Half Term

For our May half-term hunt we're asking you to find the animals who have escaped from the art collection and hidden themselves around the building!   Our drop-in hunts are free.   Also on offer to keep the kids busy we have a programme of bookable fun activities.   May half-term booking to go live in coming days.

Join Louise and Rene, her assistance dog, in a short introduction to the Guide Dogs charity.


Louise will demonstrate how Rene assists her in her daily life and will talk about The mission of the Guide Dogs society which is to ensure that no one living with sight loss is left out of life!
