Relaxed Hour

The gallery is an inspiring place for children to visit. However, we understand that public outings with children with needs can often be challenging, members of the Rugby Autism Network can come along to this dedicated timeslot where they can explore in your own time without the usual day to day distractions and take park in facilitated workshop.

Using the ‘Kids in Museums -Autism Guidelines’ and meeting with the Rugby Autism Network, we have implemented some suggestions from this partnership.

Rugby Art Gallery and Museums Relaxed Hour will take place on:

2018

  • Thursday 27th December 4.00 – 5.00 – Festive Lanterns - Art Gallery/Social History Gallery Closed to public. 

2019

  • Thursday 21st February 3.30- 5.00 Explore the Peter Rabbit exhibition and take part in a craft activity.
  • Thursday 25th April 3.30 – 5.00 HOF we will offer ear defenders the rest of the year. We will keep the gallery open but use the education rooms as detailed above to offer some Rugby themed activity.
  • Thursday 25th July 3.30- 5.00 Roman Craft Session (Archaeology gallery closed to the public) 
  • Saturday 2nd November 10.00 – 11.00 Halloween Craft (Art Gallery/Social History Gallery Closed to public)
  • Saturday 28th December 10.00 – 11.00 – Christmas Craft (Art Gallery/Social History Gallery Closed to public)

Do I need to book?

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT WHEN WE ARRIVE

The gallery space will be closed to the public and only families with additional needs/autism will be gained entry. We will stop and audio in the gallery and switch off any video that may be too distracting.

There will be a ‘break out space’ if anyone needs a quiet room at any stage.

We have lots of activities in the gallery. We will run a craft activity for you and provide put sensory boxes out for you to explore.

This is open to all ages, children must be accompanied by a child.

 

What else do I need to know?

You can access A VISUAL STORY where we lead you through what you can expect when you visit Rugby Art Gallery and Museum. We have ear defenders available at all times. We would like our building to be as accessible as possible, if you have any suggestions to help with this, please let one of the team know
